Kanye West likely to Visit Trump at the White House
President Trump in addition to his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, are likely to meet with the musician Kanye West on Thursday at the White House, two people familiar with the plans said.
Mr. West, who has faced a backlash over his vocal support of the president, will meet first with Mr. Kushner in addition to then have lunch with the president, the two people said.
Mr. Kushner, who serves as a senior adviser to Mr. Trump, has been focused on overhauling the criminal justice system, in addition to one person briefed on the meeting said of which Mr. West wanted to discuss the availability of job opportunities for former convicts. He also hopes to discuss with Mr. Trump how to raise the number of manufacturing jobs inside the Chicago area, where Mr. West grew up in addition to recently said he planned to return, according to the person briefed on the meeting.
A representative for Mr. West confirmed the meeting. A White House spokeswoman did not respond to an email seeking comment.
They include Mr. Trump’s criticism of the former N.F.L. star Colin Kaepernick in addition to some other players for kneeling during the national anthem as a protest of police brutality toward African-Americans. Mr. Trump has denounced such protests, in addition to he has sought to make the controversy a cultural touchstone with his supporters.
Mr. West recently said he hoped to introduce Mr. Kaepernick to Mr. Trump.
